Geometric parameter generation for three-dimensional movement analysis in digital subtraction angiography

A method to geometrically characterize three-dimensional (3-D) vascular structures, in order to achieve understanding of cardiac kinematics through analysis of local deformations is presented. Automatic 3-D reconstruction and motion estimation of four relevant arteries centerlines, is obtained for a complete cardiac angiography sequence. Reconstructed centerlines, are parametrized and approximated using B-Splines to calculate curvature and torsion expressed in Frenet frame basis. Inertial axis and virtual reference point are other geometric characteristics. These features allow one to obtain a detailed analysis of local deformations as well as a first glance of global movement. The analysis of their behavior along quasi-homogeneous segments give access to symbols for organ kinematics description.
