A 90 KW Vertical Turbine Alternator

In the past the use of gas turbine generator sets with ratings under 200 KW has generally been limited to military and aerospace applications. Since 1971 Alturdyne of San Diego, California has manufactured small 60-90 KW gas turbine emergency generator sets for the telecommunications industry. More recently these units have been packaged with vertical orientation to minimize floor space requirements and maximize simplicity of installation. The evolution, design and performance of Alturdyne's 90 KW "Verti-Pac" are the subject of this paper.
