Modelling wireless communication in highly-multipath low-loss environments

The electromagnetic challenges for wireless communications in highly multipath reverberant environments are introduced. A resonant mode model is constructed and the model is then used to investigate the advantages offered by using a spread spectrum coding scheme in a resonant environment. The scheme used is direct sequence spread spectrum similar to that used in COTS systems such as ZigBee and Bluetooth. Results are presented using bit-error-ratio (BER) as a figure of merit. Finally a TLM model is introduced to permit future validation against experimental measurements in a reverberation chamber using a COTS 2.4 GHz ZigBee system in the frequency range 2.405-2.485 GHz.
