Application Research of Maximum Wind-energy Tracing Controller Based Adaptive Control Strategy in WECS

Based on the prototype of wind electricity conversion system (WECS), this paper presents a self-adaptive control strategy for doubly fed induction generators (DFIG) applied to variable speed constant frequency wind generation system. The strategy mainly depends on wind speed estimation, the wind turbine and generator parameters. Wind speed is estimated by the output power and the efficiency of the generator. In the adaptive maximum power point tracking (MPPT) strategy, an estimated maximum efficiency is adopted by the maximum tip-speed ratio tracker, without the measurement of mechanical quantities. The steady and dynamic performance of the control strategy had been verified for efficacy by MATLAB/Simulink software and on experiment platform of a 2 kW laboratory variable speed constant frequency wind generation system.
