An Investigation of Bluetooth Mergence with Ultra Wideband

This paper presents an investigation into some merging options between an upper-layer Bluetooth (BT) protocol stack with a lower-layer ECMA-368/9 Ultra Wideband (UWB) radio connection. A Bluetooth over Ultra Wideband (BToUWB) system is modeled by channeling an existing compliant Bluetooth connection's data over a software implemented UWB Medium Access Control (MAC) and simulated Physical (PHY) layer radio channel. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the methodology used to create a simulated BToUWB system and evaluate some advantages pertaining to the merger between the two Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) technologies.
