Programmable infrared accessory light switch

In this paper, we present the idea of using a TV remote to control a room light switch. The idea was initiated as many electronic products have their own remote and the consumer will be burdened for numerous of remotes in a place. Thus, the remotes function could be combined together into a ‘universal’ remote and it is very ideal to solve this problem. PIALS is a device that can remotely control room lights using a TV remote. It can learn control sequence from TV’s IR remote and control any room light of interest. It has the flexibility to work with any of the remote buttons as well as brands. This project utilizes the standard light switch by locating the device within the light fitting. It is fully powered from the original lighting circuit, dismissing the need for external, replaceable power supplies. It runs directly from the 240V power supply that the desired light connects to. PIALS can be simply plug-in to the socket with the light connected to it
