Predicting range point response from chirp non-linearity

A highly versatile and exact approach to range point response prediction for linear frequency modulated continuous wave radars is described. The approach involves direct measurement of the chirp frequency profile and exact numerical computation of the point response by simulation of the de-chirp compression process. A test radar is used to image a point-like target. The results are used to validate the computational method, and demonstrate excellent agreement.
