The role of dimensionality and dispersion for defects in photonic crystals

We show that band-edge curvature and dimensionality are linked in controlling the evolution of defect modes in photonic crystal bandgaps. We find analytic solutions for frequencies of localised defect modes as a function of the defect strength for weak defects and link our results to simple solid state physics.
