Indirect vector control scheme for linear induction motors using single neuron PI controllers with and without the end effects

This paper presents an intelligent single neuron (SN) vector control scheme for the linear induction motors (LIM) in order to achieve a high performance. The movement of a linear induction motor (LIM) causes eddy currents in the secondary conductor sheet at the entry and the exit of the primary core. The eddy currents tend to resist sudden flux variation, allowing only gradual change along the air gap. Hence, the so-called ‘end effects’ causes not only the losses but also air gap flux profile variation depending on the speed. In this paper a simulation model of LIM with and without the end effects is developed following the equivalent circuit model. Finally the vector-control scheme based on the single neuron controller is presented. In addition a good performance is obtained by means of the proposed control scheme; the linor flux is also obtained properly by using the single neuron controller.
