Erasing Characteristics of Magneto-Optical Recording Media

Erasing characteristics of magneto-optical media (thick TbFe film formed by triode RF sputtering on grooved plastic, with an SiO
2
protective layer) are reported. Three disks, with varying Tb concentrations, coercivities and other properties, were used in experiments. Conditions for erasing prerecorded signals were determined for each of these disks; erasing was possible at the same power as writing (4 mW) for two of the disks. It was concluded that disks with a large coercive force yield more favorable erasing characteristics, while composition is not directly related.
