Coprecipitation Synthesis of Ag-Doped ZnO Nanopowders

Nanosized Ag-doped ZnO powder was prepared via coprecipitation, followed by a washing–drying–calcining treatment. For the doping source for target, was used AgNO
₃
powder with a various mixing ratio (0, 0.02, and 0.05 wt.%). Colloidal silver has been known to have unique antimicrobial activity that may be useful in the construction of antibacterial materials (self-cleaning materials) to aid in the fight against bacteria-related infections. The antibacterial activity of silver is dependent on the release of Ag
⁺
ions, which act by displacing Zn
²⁺
ions. The obtained material Ag-ZnO was characterized using XRD and SEM techniques. Characterization results will be discussed.
