A 12-Channel 60-Gb/s Transimpedance Amplifier and Limiting Amplifier Array for OPCB Applications

In this paper, a 12-channel 60-Gb/s differential transimpedance amplifier (TIA) and limiting amplifier (LA) array is realized in a 0.18-μm standard CMOS technology for the applications of hybrid optical printed-circuit boards (OPCBs). To relax the design tradeoffs of the TIA between the bandwidth and the large photodiode capacitance, we exploit the advanced common-gate input stage. And active feedback technique with negative capacitance compensation has been implemented as a gain stage of the limiting amplifier. Post- layout simulations demonstrate that a single channel TIA and LA achieves 96-dBΩ transimpedance gain, 5-Gb/s operations with 4.7-GHz bandwidth for 1-pF input parasitic capacitance, and -18-dBm optical sensitivity.
