Performance Evaluation of Fingerprint Orientation Estimation Algorithms

Fingerprint orientation estimation is a key problem for Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), especially for minutia-based AFIS. In this paper, we give a review and performance evaluation of 5 popular orientation estimation algorithms with the test database FVC2000 DB1 and a platform based on minutia matching. False Match Rate (FMR) and False Non-match Rate (FNMR) of the AFIS are used to evaluate these 5 algorithms.
