The value of third order nonlinear optical susceptibility (chi

) of ternary and quaternary ZnSe-based mixed crystals was extracted from the standard backward degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM) measurement at 532 nm. The studied crystals were grown by the modified high-pressure Bridgman method. We found that the value of third order nonlinear optical susceptibility (chi

Se is higher than that for Zn
_0.80
Mg
_0.20
Se. We also found that the value of chi

for Zn
_0.83
Be
_0.04
Mg

Se is located between the values obtained for Zn

_0.21
Se and Zn
_0.80
Mg
_0.20
Se.
