Electrochemical Capacitor Voltage Supplement for Large-Scale Naval Submarines

Electrochemical capacitors, also known as ultracapacitors, are utilized to supplement a voltage sag due to heavy loading of valve regulated lead acid batteries. This is done in order to stay above a critical low-voltage operation threshold. Voltage sag mitigation is achieved through a switching scheme activated by a low-voltage detection circuit adding voltage through an electrochemical capacitor bank and snubber circuitry. Through the appropriate collaboration of these systems, energy is safely added to the load.
