Use of EAP-AKA, IETF Hokey and AAA Mechanisms to Provide Access and Handover Security and 3G-802.16M Interworking

Extensible authentication protocol (EAP) is being used for 802.11 and 802.16e network access authentication and for 3G-802 inter-working security. EAP has issues with supporting delay sensitive handovers. A new key management method, called Handover Keying (HOKEY) for access to 802.16m and 802.16m handovers for 3G subscribers is shown in detail. Deployment of EAP-AKA for use of SIM cards for allowing access UMTS subscribers to the 802.16m is shown as well.
