The Jet Chamber System, a Pictorial Drift Chamber for Experiments at Petra

The jet chamber system is a novel type of drift chamber which is able to record a complete picture of particle trajectories even in complex events involving narrow jets of particles. The principle, the mechanical construction and the read-out electronics are described. Test results are reported.
