Phenomena of Resonant Transmission through Perforated Metal Plates

In this paper, several structures that allow for optical, terahertz, and microwave enhanced transmission phenomena through metal plates perforated by arrays of holes of subwavelength cross-section are investigated. It is shown that the transmission enhancement is associated with resonant coupling between the incident/transmitted field and source-free fields supported by the perforated plate. The source-free fields are allowed when any type of slow waves is supported by the plate and a proper periodic arrangement of the subwavelength holes is present.
