Incoherent Reversal in Metal Particle Media

In this paper reports, the magnetisation reversal in ultra-fine elongated metal particles is incoherent. The six metal particle tapes with TEM imaging and magnetic measurement is studied. The activation volume of reversal (V
_act
) and the physical particle volume (V
_phys
) have been determined to establish how the size and geometry of the particles affects the magnetisation reversal. V
_act
is defined as the smallest volume that reverses coherently. The particles have uniaxial shape anisotropy, which gives them a high coercivity.
