Investigation of Mixing Effects on Spectroscopic Data analysis of Implosion Core Gradient Structure

Recent spectroscopic analysis, based on image intensity distributions and line spectra of a series of indirect-drive inertial confinement fusion implosions at the University of Rochester's OMEGA laser, has demonstrated a discrepancy between density gradients inferred from the data analysis and those calculated in "clean" hydrodynamic simulations. The cause of this discrepancy is currently under investigation. One likely cause is the presence of mixing between the shell material and the fuel, which is not included in the "clean" hydrodynamic simulations. The application of a mix model to the hydrodynamic output will help to define the extent of mixing in the problem, and also assess how important mixing is in the spectroscopic data analysis
