The CMS Tracker Simulation

The CMS Tracker detector [-, 1998], made of silicon strip and pixel sensors, contains about 76 million readout channels and more than 16000 sensitive volumes covering a total surface of about 200 m
²
. The detector simulation is based on the Geant4 simulation toolkit and the CMS object-oriented framework for simulation and reconstruction. The simulation includes geometry simulation, signal generation and Lorentz drift, inefficiency, and noise. The finite time resolution of the frontend electronics is also taken into account in order to superimpose minimum-bias collision. A final step reformats the simulated data so that they can be processed by the same reconstruction software as real data. In this paper we describe the different components of CMS Tracker simulation.
