Effect of Electrical Disturbances, Grid Recovery Voltage and Generator Inertia on Maximation of Mechanical Torques in Large Turbogenerator Sets

Investigations on large turbogenerator shaft torques caused by different types of electrical disturbances have shown that the stress levels can be higher than during conventional terminal short circuits. Shaft-stress trend in the future highly utilized generators is illustrated. Influence of electrical and mechanical modeling on the calculation results is studied. A suitable protection conception is outlined.
