Design of HW/SW-systems with VLSI subsystems using codes

A Practical Concurrent Design Environment, CODES, for the design of hardware/software systems is described. It is shown that hardware/software Co-Design can be based on an abstract model of communicating parallel random access machines. It is also shown how the design of VLSI circuits that act as subsystems in larger HW/SW systems can be supported with CODES. Major design phases of CODES such as modeling, subsystem design, simulation, and integration into a working prototype are outlined. Further, a novel framework that governs the flow-, data-, and task-management of Co-Design processes is briefly described. A sample application proves the feasibility of the approach.<
