Preparation of Chalcogenide Step-Index and Micro-Structured Fiber for Telecommunication

Chalcogenide glasses are based on sulfur, selenium, tellurium and the addition of other elements such as arsenic, germanium, antimony, gallium, etc. These glasses combine high non linear properties with large infrared transmission from 0.5-1 μm to 12-18 μm depending on the composition. This work presents recent studies, concerning non linear optical properties of chalcogenide glasses and the elaboration of single mode fibers. Classical step index fibers and several complex and regular holey fibers from chalcogenide glasses have been realized by a stack and draw technique which were optically characterized by near field spectroscopy at 1.55 μm.
