On judgment and decision making under time pressure and the control of process industries

Human interaction with a largely automatized process industry is characterized by time pressure in emergencies and unexpected situations. This study presents characteristics of the human as an actor under time pressure of relevance to the control of technological systems. First, the concept of time pressure is given a short theoretical background. Then, time pressure, stress and performance are discussed in a selective review of earlier research, This is followed by a summary of studies on time pressure, judgement and decision making. Individual differences in coping with time pressure are presented next followed by a concluding summary of the main findings.<
