Development of HDTV emission systems in North America

The North American broadcasting structure and the relationships between the different forms of the media are examined in order to understand the North American approach to high-definition television (HDTV). The processes that are being used to define the appropriate technical systems for HDTV broadcasting are explained. Technical proposals that have been made are summarized.<
