Abstract:
Interuniversity Micro Electronics Center (IMEC) is an independent research and development organization in Belgium. It carries out research in the fields of very large-scale integration (VLSI) design methodologies, device physics, submicron processing for Si and III-V integrated circuits, materials, packaging, sensors, etc. IMEC has a strong interaction with several universities and with higher polytechnic schools. It enhances their capabilities by making available all the software for VLSI design on a computer network linking IMEC to these institutions. It also has strong ties with university research in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and electronics. Training on VLSI design is also done for industrial companies throughout Europe. Research is done in collaboration with more than 80 industrial companies, mainly in Europe. It is strongly involved in projects cofounded by the Commission of the European Communities (ESPRIT, RACE, etc.) and by the European Space Agency.<>
