CuInSe/sub 2/ thin film solar cells by pulsed laser deposition

Thin films of CuInSe/sub 2/ were deposited on soda lime glass and Coming 7059 glass with and without Mo coating by the pulsed laser deposition method from a uniaxially hot pressed CuInSe/sub 2/ target. Numerous deposition parameters were varied and resulting films were characterized by SEM, EDX and XRPD. All films deposited from a stoichiometric target are Se deficient. Post deposition selenization process or in situ Se excess lead to single phase CuInSe/sub 2/ thin films. CuInSe/sub 2CdS/ZnO heterojunctions prepared from the deposited layers reach photovoltaic conversion efficiencies of about 8.5%.<
