Final assembly plant test bed on complete car, places new demands on the implementation of software in electronic systems

The current and future demands on greatly reduced emissions from motor vehicles will lead to a new technology and solutions for engine control systems. This article describes the ideas and new requirements, from a production point of view, on software for engine control systems which have been developed while working on the Volvo 850 Turbo. The vehicle is equipped with a new engine, a 5 cylinder (in line) 2.3 liter, a control system from Robert Bosch GmbH (Motronic M4.3), and an automatic gearbox with a control system from AISIN AW Co.
