Electromagnetic shielding by metallized fabric enclosure: theory and experiment

A combined experimental and theoretical evaluation of shielding effectiveness of metallized fabric enclosures against electromagnetic radiation in the frequency range 10 kHz-130 MHz is reported. The test object consisted of a small wooden frame covered with one of two types of DEVEX metallized fabric. The shielding effectiveness of each fabric was measured in terms of a transfer function for the given enclosure. Deliberate degradations made to the enclosure shield demonstrated the importance of having a well-controlled or 'tight' shield. A low-frequency calculational model allowed computation of the expected internal magnetic fields in the enclosure. The results of the experimental study compare favorably with the predictions of the model.<
