A multicast model for WDM-based local lightwave networks with a passive star topology

To achieve gigabit network service, WDM based lightwave network has been studied intensively. Many scheduling algorithms have bean proposed for single hop WDM based lightwave network with a passive star topology. But these algorithms didn't consider various network services, such as multicast. Multicast is an absolutely needed service for many modern applications, including distributed computing environment, multimedia communication, ..., etc. In this paper, a multicast model and a scheduling algorithm for WDM-based local lightwave networks with a passive star topology are proposed. Under this model, multicast requests can be scheduled efficiently. The simulation results show that our algorithm works well for unicast requests as well as multicast requests.<
