The removal of wind from near surface oceanographic data records using cross spectral techniques

Near surface oceanographic records are often dominated by the influence of the wind as opposed to diurnal and semi-diurnal tides over the rest of the water column. If the wind record is available, cross spectral techniques can be used to estimate the wind driven influence and 'dewind' the data records, thus allowing the examination of the low frequency response in the records. This paper presents a spectral dewinding technique and the application of this technique to data records from moorings in a high runoff, tidally energetic fjord.<
