Detection and imaging performance of a synthetic aperture sonar

Two performance criteria for a synthetic aperture sonar are defined. The first is related to detection, the second to imaging. It is shown from both criteria that broadening the signal spectrum does not prevent a performance loss when the platform speed is raised beyond the limit set by the space sampling constraint of the synthetic aperture. This loss can only be avoided by increasing the length of the receive array.<
