Local area multi-service system for fiber-optic subscriber network

In addition to telephony service, new services appearance and new network function preparation to support them are become to be expected. This paper describes the system design of a new local area multi-service system, it can utilize the surplus capacities of a fiber-optic (FO) subscriber network. The new services proposed herein are narrowband digital services; channel capacity are N/spl times/B (B=64 kb/s). They are handled as leased circuits in local areas and expected to spur the growth of multimedia services.<
