Commentary on Walton correspondence relating to the ILS glide slope

The author suggests that the conclusions reached by Dr. Walton (see IEEE Transactions Antennas Propagation AP-33, p.908-917, (Aug. 1985)) are misleading. The instrument landing system (ILS) glide slope is a contemporary approach and landing aid which is a crucial element in maintaining air safety and preserving human life. For this reason an important goal has been to document carefully technical findings especially as they relate to issues of safety. The author presents his experiences as a practicing engineer who has worked continually with ILS glide slopes for 35 years and has as pilot-in-command flown over 1000 h collecting data on glide slopes and still continue to use them routinely.<
