Stimulated Brillouin scattering dependence on the XeCl laser spectrum

Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) can represent a quite simple technique for generating phase conjugate reflections of XeCl laser radiation. The XeCl laser spectrum exhibits two strong lines at 3079.8 /spl Aring/, and at 3081.9 /spl Aring/, which are separated by a spectral width much larger than the bandwidth of the excited acoustic wave of a Brillouin medium. It has been investigated experimentally whether or not the two lines drive SBS independently. By using both lines to pump the Brillouin medium maximum, power reflectivities of 30% have been measured, but the power reflectivity increases up to 40% by using only the 3079.8 /spl Aring/ line.<
