SYNC3: a modern approach to Omega synchronization

The paper describes the latest evolution of SYNC, the computer program which is used to maintain the Omega system synchronization. The authors present a brief history of SYNC, its strengths and weaknesses, and the development of a new SYNC. The new program, SYNC3, is an enhanced version of its predecessor maintaining much of the original functionality, but exploiting advances in computer technology, software engineering and developments in analysis of Omega data. The prototype SYNC3 software is described, including introduction of an integrated database and data preprocessor, and an enhanced numerical implementation of the Kalman filter. Test results are also presented.<
