Practical aspects of quantitation in SPECT: Monte Carlo study

An attempt was made to evaluate the influence of different factors on quantization in SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography) and to find numerical values for the errors they would introduce when neglected. The study was performed using data generated by Monte Carlo simulation. The analyzed factors range from values as small as 3% for angular sampling dependence, up to 40% for effects related to spatial resolution for objects of 2 cm diameter, to as much as a factor of 4.5 for attenuation of a point source in a 20 cm diameter water cylinder.<
