Field dependence of the electromechanical properties of fine grained hydrothermally processed lead titanate ceramics

Fine-grained Sm-modified lead titanate ceramics prepared from hydrothermally processed powders have been microstructurally characterized by quantitative stereology. The poling field dependence of their permittivity and losses and their electromechanical and elastic properties as determined by the resonance method are compared with those of Ca-substituted titanates. The results are also used to evaluate the influence of grain size on the behavior of the electromechanical properties relative to the poling field. This behavior is considered to determine the most appropriate conditions for the production of ceramics for high-frequency applications.<
