Why TPC-A and TPC-B are obsolete

The relevance and pitfalls of TPC (Transaction Processing Performance Council) Benchmark A and B are examined. Several problems with the benchmarks are described, including flaws in the pricing model, the impact of terminals in the price/performance metric, the use of client/server configurations, and the use of specialized features to improve benchmark performance. Comparisons are made to TPC-C. The ways in which TPC-C addresses these problems are examined. It is noted that TPC-C substantially improves on TPC-A by testing more aspects of a system and addressing many of the problems which have occurred with TPC-A.<
