Magnetic properties of Co/sub 70.3/Si/sub 15/B/sub 10/Fe/sub 4.7/ amorphous powders from crystalline ribbons

Amorphous and magnetically soft Co/sub 70.3/Si/sub 15/B/sub 10/Fe/sub 4.7/ alloy can be fabricated in powder form from fully crystallized glassy ribbons using a low energy ball milling technique. Magnetic saturation and anisotropy fields of as-milled and annealed powders are measured and compared with values obtained for amorphous and crystallized ribbons. All magnetic properties of powders are generally similar to those of metallic glassy ribbons, but can be easily modified by the preparation process. Prolonged milling decreases the particle size from 10 to 0.1 mu m and an increase in coercivity is observed. In wet conditions (hexane), and by application of surfactant during the milling process in the material, a considerable decrease in magneto-crystalline anisotropy is found.<
