Reconstruction of endocardial potentials from intracavitary probe potentials: a model study

An attempt was made to develop and test a mathematical method for reconstructing the potential distribution on the endocardial surface from cavitary potential data measured with a multielectrode intracavitary probe. Such a method will enhance the diagnostic capability of electrophysiologic studies and the ability to locate the site of origin of arrhythmias. The boundary element method combined with Tikhonov regularization was developed and tested on an idealized model of the probe-heart-torso volume conductor. The inverse solution restored stability and accuracy to the endocardial potentials in the presence of errors in estimating cavity geometry and probe position.<
