Application of photothermoplastic holograms to single mode fibre optical interconnects

The authors report on recent improvements of both operation speed and diffraction efficiency of photothermoplastic holograms which allowed one to insert two reconfigurable holograms in a free-space link with a fibre-to-fibre loss lower than 20 dB. They also discuss some of the design problems related to the realization of a system based on these devices, which would be able to interconnect two arrays of 16 single mode fibres.<
