Measurement of plastic scintillating fiber properties with avalanche photodiodes

Preliminary results of tests using avalanche photodiodes operated in the Geiger mode are presented. Light yields and attenuation lengths of plastic scintillating fibers of diameters 0.875 mm phi and 2 mm phi were measured with the avalanche photodiodes. The detection efficiency of the 1.5 mm phi fiber for ionizing particles is estimated based on these results.<
