Detectability bounds for spread-spectrum communications

In a recent paper (see E.D. Murray and J.A. Edwards, 1990), composite hypothesis testing was used to derive a measure of detectability for a very general class of digitally modulated waveforms in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), and this measure was used as the basis for a new evaluation technique. The authors present a summary of this procedure and demonstrate how it may be applied to the evaluation of spread-spectrum waveforms. They consider spread-spectrum waveforms, which are well known for their LPI (low probability of intercept) properties, and show how the performance of the common spread-spectrum techniques can be evaluated and compared by using the technique.<
