Oxidative stability and compensation effect in laboratory-aged XLPE cable insulation

Oxidative induction time (OIT) measurements performed on cable models subjected to a wide range of aging conditions have been used to investigate the nature of the compensation effect. The compensation effect involves an interdependence, usually linear, between parameters of the equations describing reaction kinetics. The authors focus on the results of OIT measurements performed in two laboratories on a large number of specimens of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) model cables. In particular the physical versus strictly mathematical character of the compensation effect as evolving from the OIT studies is discussed.<
