The effect of corrosion myths on national electrical standards

It is argued that stainless steel does corrode and should not be listed as an acceptable, perhaps preferred, material for ground rods. A review of corrosion basics and a detailed account of how stainless steel does corrode are provided. Examples of other misconceptions on the part of electrical engineers, as well as corrosion engineers, are also discussed. This discussion underlines the need for a strong liaison between the IEEE and the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE).<
