A comparison of alternative design approaches for the Survivable Signaling Network

The authors describe the development and performance comparison of the five Survivable Signaling Network (SSN) design approaches: steepest ascending survivability and robustness; lowest measure paths; blanket network; switching office diversity; and hierarchical network. They also give the network design objectives and design requirements, and explain the network design evaluation measures and evaluation processes. The steepest ascending survivability and robustness design approach demonstrated a high degree of survivability to massive damage specified by the government, robustness to variations in damage, and compliance to peacetime performance objectives, and was therefore recommended as the best design possible for SSN.<
