A method for current and torque ripple reduction in sliding mode controlled induction motor drives

A method for current and torque ripple reduction in sliding-mode-controlled induction motor drives is proposed. It is based on the use of a digital pulse-width modulation technique in the power coverter command, making it possible to obtain a mean converter output voltage vector closer to the one determined by the control logic and an alternative method of current limitation that avoids current distortions and consequent torque oscillations. Simulation results are presented showing the current and torque behavior under both the proposed method and the commonly used converter command methods in sliding-mode-controlled drives. These results confirm the better performance obtained with the use of the proposed method.<
