Design of the Boeing 777 electric system

The Boeing 777 electric system is being designed to take advantage of technologically proven concepts, as well as new concepts, in order to provide a fully automated state-of-the-art system. The system is comprised of two independent electrical systems, the main and the backup. Automation of the system is performed by the state-of-the-art, microprocessor-based control units. These units perform system control, protection, and built-in-test functions. Each control unit has redundant two-way communications through the ARINC 629 communications bus. By using this communication bus, the number of discrete wires previously required for similar systems has been significantly reduced, thereby allowing considerable reduction of the interface circuits and reduction in weight.<
